Career Foreign Service officers and their unions have gone to court to block nearly 250 unlawful firings — layoffs pushed by the Trump administration despite a clear act of Congress prohibiting mass terminations through January 30, 2026.

By securing a temporary restraining order and pressing for a permanent injunction, these diplomats are protecting more than their jobs. They’re defending the integrity of institutions that keep Americans safe, strengthen alliances, and respond to global crises — work that becomes even more critical in times of uncertainty.

Their lawsuit sends a clear message: no president is above the law, and public servants deserve respect, stability, and fairness.
