ICYMI: California Enacts New Election Safeguards

California has enacted a 13-bill package establishing new safeguards for ballots, voting technology, election records, and election administration ahead of November’s midterms. Among the new laws, Assembly Bill 282 makes it a felony to seize ballots, election records, or certified voting technology before election results are certified.

The package also requires state officials to be quickly notified about certain law-enforcement actions involving election materials, strengthens election cybersecurity measures, addresses interference with mail ballots, and expands other voting and election procedures.
