Canada is refusing to go along with Donald Trump’s attempt to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America.” Ontario Premier Doug Ford unveiled a massive billboard declaring “Lake Ontario. Now and Always,” making clear that the name—with more than 400 years of history and Indigenous Wendat roots—will outlast Trump’s presidency.

As tensions between the U.S. and Canada grow amid Trump’s escalating trade war, Canadian leaders are standing up for their country’s history, sovereignty, and relationship to one of the Great Lakes shared by both nations.
