ICYMI: Major Victory for the First Amendment in Texas

In case you missed it, a major victory for religious freedom just came out of Texas!

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the state’s new law requiring all public schools to display the Ten Commandments, ruling that the mandate likely violates the First Amendment.

Families from many different faith traditions challenged the law, united by a simple shared belief: no child should be pressured by the government to adopt or venerate a specific religious doctrine. Judge Orlando Garcia agreed, writing that it would be “impractical, if not impossible”, for students to avoid these unwelcome displays if the law were allowed to take effect.
