The Smile: 10/6

NYC expands free childcare, scientists make new underwater discoveries, and more!

Hi friend,

Happy Monday! More than 10,000 children from low-income families in New York City are set to move off the childcare voucher waitlist. Eligible families will receive vouchers that can cover care at a provider of their choice, with the expansion backed by $475 million in dedicated state funding for the program.

There’s even more good news today: Three California residents have sued ICE, scientists discovered 57 previously unknown species during a deep-sea expedition off Argentina, and a school custodian’s kidney donation helped give a teacher’s brother a new chance at life.

Let’s dive into the good news! 💛
